The Institute of Evolution in Africa (Instituto de Evolución en África, IDEA) was formally created in 2010 by a memorandum of understanding among the University of Alcalá de Henares, The Regional Archaeology Museum of Madrid, The Comunidad de Madrid and the City Hall of Madrid. It is currently located within the Museum of the Origins (Madrid, Spain) and it is devoted to the study of evolution in general in the African continent, with special emphasis on human evolution and paleoanthropology. The leading project of this institution is the Olduvai Paleoanthropology and Paleoecology Project (TOPPP) carried out at Olduvai Gorge (Tanzania). IDEA is co-directed by M. Domínguez-Rodrigo & E. Baquedano.
